Mayumi Case grew up in Japan, but did not start her aikido training in her native country. Her first introduction to aikido was through a course offered at Scottsdale Community College in Scottsdale, Arizona, in 1995. She subsequently joined the Arizona Aikido Ki Society and continued training under Kirk Fowler sensei, 7th Dan. She earned the rank of Shodan (first degree black belt) in 2000, and the rank of 4th dan in 2008. She received the Ki rank of Shoden in 2002 and Chuden in June 2007. She is an Associate Ki Lecturer and Assistant Examiner. She has attended many aikido seminars and intensive training camps, and has received instruction from high-ranking Aikido instructors in Japan, Europe, and the U.S. She currently receives instruction from David Shaner sensei, 7th dan, who is the Chief Instructor of the Eastern Ki Federation.
